Guy Maybon (1936-2026)
Engineer, Inventor and Industrial Entrepreneur, Founder of Technogenia®
A trained engineer, visionary inventor and entrepreneur, Guy Maybon passed away in August 2026, in his 90th year.
Background and Career:
In 1956, he entered the École Supérieure de Céramique Industrielle de Sèvres, where he developed the expertise in ceramic materials that would shape his professional life.
In 1962, he joined SFEC (Société de Fabrication d’Éléments Catalytiques) in Bollène. At a time when France was building its nuclear industry, the company was involved in a major technological challenge: developing, without any foreign assistance, the materials required for uranium enrichment. Through his deep knowledge of carbon ceramics, his inventiveness and his determination, Guy Maybon made a significant contribution to this remarkable industrial and scientific achievement.
Creation and Development of Technogenia®:
In 1979, he founded Technogenia®.
His ambition was to develop a comprehensive wear protection offering that combined innovative products, such as Technodur® welding consumables and Technosphère®, with industrial component repair through hardfacing technologies. This was made possible by mastering existing welding processes while also inventing new ones, including laser cladding.
This combination of consumables and application expertise remains one of the company’s key strengths today.
Among his most notable innovations was Sphérotène®, a spherical tungsten carbide produced through a manufacturing process unique in the world. Designed to withstand the most severe industrial environments, this material has contributed significantly to Technogenia’s international reputation.
This dual product-service approach remains one of the distinctive characteristics of Technogenia, which has since become the Technogenia Group, operating internationally through two subsidiaries in the United States, two subsidiaries in the Middle East, one subsidiary in the United Kingdom, and a French subsidiary dedicated to cemented carbide manufacturing.
Technogenia’s customers recognize the Group as an international reference in the fight against industrial wear.

A Living Legacy:
Those who knew Guy Maybon remember a cultured man, endowed with a sharp analytical mind and an insatiable curiosity.
His legacy is not measured solely by the products and processes he invented, nor by the industrial group he created. It lives on today through the women and men of the Technogenia Group who, across several continents, continue with conviction the industrial vision he conceived and successfully passed on to future generations.
